Circular cutter for sewer manholes
Cut the manhole out in a circle.
Do not break up half the road.
The HornetCut R650 mounts in the manhole frame on expanding clamps and cuts asphalt or concrete around it. Adjustable cutting diameter, maximum radius 1300 mm, depth up to 100 mm.

02Problem and gain
What costs the most when adjusting a manhole?
Not the cutting itself. What costs is everything you have to do around it once the cut-out turns out bigger and uglier than it should be.

Demolition ends up twice the size you need
You lift out a ring set to the diameter of that particular manhole, not a metre too wide.
Hauling rubble away and bringing mix in grow with the area
A smaller cut-out means less rubble to remove and less mix to lay.
The lane stays closed longer than the schedule assumed
One mounting and one pass around the rim instead of four cuts and corners to finish by hand.
After winter the joint around the manhole cracks and comes back as a complaint
A vertical, even edge gives a clean joint with fresh asphalt.
A breaker can damage the shaft or the load-relief ring
The blades work in the surface, the machine rests on the manhole frame, the shaft is left untouched.
03Methods compared
Breaker, straight saw or a circular cut?
Breaking out with a hammer takes more surface than adjusting a manhole requires. More rubble to haul away, more mix to lay, a longer lane closure.
A breaker leaves a ragged edge, so the joint with fresh asphalt lets water through and cracks after the first winter. A circular cut takes out only the ring around the manhole and leaves an even, vertical edge.
Breaker, chipping out
- ragged edge
- more demolition than needed
- risk of damaging the shaft
Straight saw, square cut
- even edge
- four passes and corners to finish
- cut-out larger than needed
HornetCut R650
- mounted in the manhole frame on clamps
- one pass around the rim
- the ring comes out in one piece
04How it works
Four steps, one operator
- 01
Mounting
The machine mounts in the manhole frame on adjustable expanding clamps. The manhole itself is the reference point, so there is no anchoring in the surface and no setting out.
- 02
Setting
You set the cutting radius, up to 1300 mm, and lower the saw to the chosen depth, up to 100 mm. The same setting comes back at every following manhole.
- 03
Cutting
A petrol engine drives the shaft with the cutting blades. The operator walks around the manhole pushing the saw frame, so they control the pace on hard aggregate themselves.
- 04
Lifting out
The cut ring is levered up and lifted out. The shaft and the cover stay intact and the area is ready for adjustment straight away.
The manhole is not the problem. The problem is what has to come up to reach it.
05People and machine
Who works with it?
The machine goes to site with a road crew or a utilities team. It is run by an operator who knows the surface, not by the manufacturer's service engineer. That is why it matters that operation is obvious after the first briefing and that parts can be ordered with one phone call.
The operator lowers the saw to the set depth and moves around the manhole, pushing the saw frame.

06Applications
Where does it work?
Full descriptionsManhole height adjustment
Raising or lowering a cover to the level of the new surface without breaking up the area around it.
Cover and ring replacement
Replacing a corroded or cracked cover together with the load-relief ring.
Road repairs and rebuilds
Preparing manholes before milling and laying a new wearing course.
Water, sewer, heating and gas networks
Access to fittings and valves in a hard surface without breaking up half the lane.
Yards and car parks
Spot repair of concrete and asphalt surfaces on industrial sites.
Failures and fast call-outs
Opening the surface and restoring it within the same working day, with a short lane closure.
